Rotherham Library Service's Blog April 2008

“All books are divisible into two classes, the books of the hour, and the books of all time.” – John Ruskin

3rd April 2008

This is an image of the national Year of Reading logoHello and welcome to Rotherham library service’s blog, launched to mark the National Year of Reading.

Since I will be the main contributor to this blog throughout the National Year of Reading (NYR), I suppose I had better introduce myself:

My name is David and I am a Librarian.

Does that sound too much like a confession at a ‘Librarians Anonymous’ meeting?

More specifically I am one of those strange beasts known as Reader Development Librarians (Branching-out). This means I get to be involved in exciting things like readers’ groups, author visits, this blog (!) and promoting the joys of reading generally.

In any case, I need a weird job title to differentiate myself from the 3 other Librarians named David that work in the Central Library.

Perhaps we’ll be hearing from those other Davids too, amongst others, as they give their views on Rotherham library service and the world of reading more generally.

Please feel free to leave comments below – although you do have to be a member of the library service to do so. This is an internal link iconClick here to join.

Welcome again – and Happy National Year of Reading!

(I am another of the Librarians called David.)

I have been trying to decide what I would list as my 5 favourite books; I hope to come to some conclusions before the end of the National Year of Reading. (my shortlist keeps getting longer.). I look forward to seeing other people's lists. (it is so much more interesting than statistics which just tell us how many times a book has been taken off the shelves.
