“All books are divisible into two classes, the books of the hour, and the books of all time.” – John Ruskin

29th April 2008

I recently went to France and – being the devout librarian that I am – spent a good few hours looking round an antiquarian book exhibition. A signed letter by T.S. Eliot was going for 250,000 Euros. If only he were still alive today – he could be as rich as Bill Gates by tea-time and wouldn't have to write all that poetry that nobody reads anymore.
